Our Mission
Freedom Service Dogs is a non-profit organization that rescues dogs from shelters and custom trains them to assist people with disabilities, providing lifetime support to ensure the success of the team and to increase the independence, endurance, and peace of mind of our clients.  (See Apply for a Dog to learn more about the types of people we assist.)

The Freedom Service Dogs' Difference
  • Rescues dogs –
FSD rescues and trains only unwanted and abandoned dogs, helping solve the pet overpopulation problem.  There is no puppy-raising program.  We turn “throw-aways” into superstars!
  • Custom trains –
FSD matches dogs to their new partner and custom trains the dog to do the specific tasks required by each individual.
  • Places dogs only in Colorado –
So that our clients do not have the expense and difficulty of out-of-state trips for evaluation and training.*
  • Provides hands-on support –
FSD visits our client’s home, office, and school to introduce the service dog and to help maintain a successful team.
  • Maximizes your donation –
FSD puts over 85¢ of every dollar spent directly toward program expenses ― all staff members assist in the training program and we have no paid profession fund-raisers.
  • Teaches dogs to work with a wag –
FSD uses positive reinforcement – treats, praise, petting – to shape play behaviors (retrieve, tug, paw, touch) into helpful tasks. We love to see tails waging while “working.” (See
    Working with a Wag .)

Retriever Rescue of Colorado

OUR MISSION:

Believing that all Retrievers deserve a safe, loving home, the mission of Retriever Rescue of Colorado is to rescue abandoned, abused, neglected, and unwanted retrievers and to promote public education on animal-related issues. Rescued breeds will include Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, Curly Coated Retrievers, Flat Coated Retrievers, Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, and Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers.

All of our dogs are fostered prior to adoption. Our organization prides itself on providing safe and promising second chances to these dogs while they await their new homes. Our foster homes allow for social development and many times direction for learning basic commands, housebreaking and exposure to children, cats, and other dogs. Depression rates of puppies and dogs kept for long periods of time in a shelter rapidly increase with each day as they wait for a new home. Foster homing can assist in alleviating unnecessary stress for some of our dogs who have come to us under serious circumstances.

History of RROC

"It all began with a passion to educate and help the animals" -RROC founders

RROC began in 2006 with only few volunteers to spearhead the effort and creation of such an incredible rescue organization. The expectation that RROC would achieve saving around 30 dogs was far exceeded within the first year of operation and today proudly touts more than 200 retrievers saved and adopted out.
