About Equine Nutrition |

Winners lead the way to optimum nutrition. Horse owners and trainers don't become winners just because their horses win. Those owners and trainers are already winners. They have gone beyond what others regard as adequate. They have made a commitment to superior genetics. And they have strived to achieve that genetic potential by exploring all the options and seeking every advantage. In their search for better solutions, they have learned that optimum nutrition leads to outstanding development and world-class performance. |

How We Help You Get There
- Resources and Experience. As part of the world's largest equine nutrition company, we feed over one million horses per day. Nutrena has been providing superior nutrition for domestic animals for more than 80 years.
- Emphasis on nutrients over ingredients. Nutrena® understands that nutrient content of ingredients varies widely based on seed type, climate, soil, and processing methods. We formulate our feeds accordingly.
- Global nutrient data bank. We're able to select the most appropriate ingredients because we maintain current nutrient values for over 180 different ingredients from over 1100 suppliers.
- Verified Nutrient Analysis. Our data bank allows us to verify that the ingredient composition of our feeds meets specific, consistent nutrient levels.
- Optimum Value Formulation System. Our feed formulas also reflect such critical variables as nutrient digestibility and ingredients palatability.

Winners lead the way to exceptional health. A yearling starts out with vast potential but never realizes it. A colt is a winner one week and a loser the next. An average performer breaks through to come into its own. What happened? In each case, factors related to performance and nutrition created a "different" horse. That's why winning owners and trainers develop their horse's nutrition as carefully as they develop their horse. |

How we help you get there:
- Understanding the health/nutrition connection. We know that the proper nutrient balance can help boost immune function, help the horse resist disease under stress, and support muscle development. A keen awareness of nutrient's impact on health has lead to formulas that regulate starch and sugar levels to help reduce the risk of colic, and incorporate mineral supplementation to help reduce the risk of developmental orthopedic disease.
- In vitro digestibility studies. At our 66 research labs — including the world's most sophisticated in vitro digestibility lab — we perform in vitro research that measures nutrient availability, a critical factor in our feed formulation. Nutrena also funds related equine research at major universities around the world.
- Innovative thinking. Nutrena takes pride in redefining the standards of equine nutrition. For example, we analyzed our groundbreaking research on amino-acid balance and applied the findings to our equine feeds, adding lysine and methionine to support muscle, hair and hoof growth. Today, others have begun to follow our lead.
- American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) partnership. Winning owners and trainers lean heavily on veterinarians to provide advice that influences decision-making. As a Educational Partner of AAEP, Nutrena helps make certain veterinarians have access to the information they need.
- Environmental Responsibility. We avoid formulating feeds with an excess of nutrients, which may not only be economically wasteful for you but also may result in additional throughput affecting the environment.

Winners lead the way to world-class performance. A horse, like a car, runs on fuel. But unlike the gasoline in your car, your horse's feed serves many different functions. Biotin helps strengthen the hooves. Calcium, phosphorus, zinc, and copper strengthen the bones. Vitamin E plays a role in keeping the muscles running. It's not easy to get everything in a world-class horse working together in perfect synchronization at the perfect time. But winners know that it happens. And when it happens, it's a beautiful thing to see. |

How we help you get there:
- Optimums, not minimums. Meeting minimum nutrient requirements is fine — if you're satisfied with minimum performance from your horse. Winners want more. So Nutrena continually seeks to design feeds that strive for optimum levels of key ingredients believed to improve stamina, such as extruded products that provide more digestible fat.
- Global consistency and availability. High-performing horses may travel frequently. And whenever they travel, they require the same high-quality nutrition. Nutrena is able to apply consistent lab and production procedures globally because we are part of the only equine nutrition company with worldwide manufacturing facilities. Our nutrient flow is not only consistent from country to country, but consistently available through our global distribution network.
- Life-cycle performance-rated feeds. Different developmental stages, genetics, and training regimens all demand different nutrient profiles. Nutrena has pioneered a series of feeds geared to every stage of the horse's life as well as feeds matched to various performance levels. Products include LifeDesign®, Vitality®, FarrTM, EmpowerTM .
- Palatability. The right feed improves equine performance not only in competition but in the feed bucket. Our variety of extruded, pelleted, and textured products all feature quality ingredients with the form and feel to help meet intake requirements.
- Global Perspective. Our global presence gives us insight into the full spectrum of developments related to equine health and nutrition. By monitoring the diverse challenges facing the world's leading owners and trainers, we're better able to develop innovative solutions that help you find the way to world-class performance.
